Otto Steinert, Torso sculpture with woman's face and hands (double exposure), 1950s
Vintage ferrotyped gelatin silver print. 50,2 x 40,7 cm. Herbert Strässer estate stamp on the verso.
Otto Steinert has often used the figure of a female torso in his photographs. The torso in this image is most likely the same he used in the image "Two Forms, Paris" (1949) in which the wire figure he used for "Strenges Ballet" and the torso are juxtaposed in a geometric space. The present image is a more surrealistic one in which Steinert combines the head and hands of a woman with the sculpted torso. Through lighting and the double exposure he creates an intriguing figure in an unusual composition. – Handling marks and creases, some pitting to surface, edges slightly curled, a few finger marks, otherwise in good condition.
Provenance: From the photographer to Herbert Strässer, currently Herbert Strässer estate.
