These images belong to the quasi-documentary series of photographs The Valley. Larry Sultan has worked on the series from 1998 to 2000, and in it he captured the daily routine at a porn film set in San Fernando Valley.

Larry Sultan's photographs of the porn business in San Fernando Valley are stylized poetry taken from everyday life. The subject is not a meat inspection, he sensitively observes people, narrates the story of a place. The picture Sultan's photographs draw of human beings, equally laconic as it is full of empathy, is influenced by the fact that usually private homes are rented for the shooting of a porn movie:

Against this backdrop, the dignity of the depicted people forms a striking contrast to the humiliating profanity of their business.
