The colour photos of Italian master photographer Franco Fontana, born 1933 in Modena (prices signed, numbered and dated: 2400 € - 13200 €), are among the stylistic milestones of colour photography of the last 50 years. He first became known through his studies of landscapes, mainly taken in Italy; highly stilized, decorative pictures in rich colours in which clouds, fields and hills are transformed into geometrical compositions.
Photographies of urban landscapes - often taken in America - and pool-images followed in the 80s and 90s.

As in his landscapes, Fontana composes these images with the means of extreme detail and a reduction to shapes and colours. The emphasis on essential, often contrasting shapes and colours enables Fontana to find and depict the formal and atmospherical essence of the visible. His motifs therefore are independent of time and place. He releases the image from its context, composing a new personal imagery based on his own approach to reality.
What emerges are distinctive photographic paintings which are unique in their stringency and expressiveness.
